Anyone on a low carb diet knows how great it is to find a new recipe that fits with their new meal plans. This is especially true with low carb desserts. Having the ability to eat delicious desserts while maintaining a weight loss diet helps to keep you excited about your diet results and satisfied with the food you are eating. Both of these things are important if you want to be able to stick with you diet and continue seeing weight loss with less effort. Here is a low carb cheesecake recipe and some helpful hints when it comes to baking while eating fewer carbohydrates.

When it comes to baking anything on a low carb diet there are 2 main substitutions that can make or break your recipes. In order for your dessert recipes to be a hit you will need to find a way to replace sugar and flour while keeping the flavor. Sugar and flour are both highly concentrated carbohydrates and therefore won’t fit in to the low carb lifestyle.

An essential sugar substitute for a low carb cheesecake recipe is splenda. This sweetener is made from the sugar molecule and retains the same sweetness without being used as an energy source by the body. It also won’t cause the same cavities that sugar does. For flour there are different options that can be used such as flours made from almonds and other nuts or legumes.

Soya flour is also a very popular flour substitute. Soya flour bakes a little differently that wheat flour so you should be aware of a couple of things if you decide to use it. Soya flour browns much more quickly and so you may need to reduce baking times or temperatures. Also be sure to store it in the fridge or freezer since it is whole grain flour.

Now comes for the best part, the low carb cheesecake recipe. This recipe is simple and delicious but not everyone shares the same tastes with desserts so feel free to make changes to the recipe to suit your own preference.

First, for the crust you will need:

• 1 ¼ cups of sweetener such as Splenda (amount depends on specific sweetener used)

• 2/3 cup ground nuts

• 1/4 cup margarine

• ¾ cups of almond flour

Mix these ingredients together and pack them down in your baking dish, preferably 10 inches in diameter. Now, the rest of the cheesecake needs:

• 24 oz. of cream cheese

• 1 cup of whipping cream

• 4 eggs

• 1 ¼ cups of sweetener

• 1 tsp of sugar free vanilla extract

• ½ tsp of almond extract

Mix the sweetener with the cream cheese until it becomes thick and creamy, and then add the eggs while still beating the mixture. Continue this until it is at the right texture for you and then mix in the remaining ingredients. Pour the mixture evenly on the crust portion and place this into the oven that has been heated to 350 F. Bake for an hour then turn off the oven but leave the cheesecake in with the heat off for another hour. Cool and then serve when ready. This makes for a simple low carb cheesecake recipe that everyone can enjoy.

Healthy Desserts For You

Sometimes we have an attitude that there are no healthy deserts out there. Usually what we do when we are dieting or exercising is think that all deserts. hat are healthy are not good tasting.

I remember when I first started to think I needed to do something to lose weight. I thought I would have to give up all the good tasting foods that I enjoyed. But let me tell you that there are alternatives. Like most every thing we to succeed, we must approach alternative healthy foods with a positive mental attitude.

With that in mind let’s look at some of the alternatives. If
you like sweets you can use milled rice to create a
wonderful sweetener. It can be turned into a syrup which
they call, appropriately enough: rice syrup. Rice syrup is
great and great for you. You can use it on waffles or toast
or mixed with yogurt. Frozen desserts made from milled rice
are also perfect alternatives to ice cream.

Look for them next to the Ben and Jerry’s. Did you know that there is a
good tasting alternative to chocolate? It is called carob.
Carob is a very good tasting alternative to chocolate, and
it comes in several varieties. Stevia extract is another
good-for-you sweetener that many people add to their coffee.

So keep that positive mental attitude.

If you are dieting and exercising you can find all
kinds of healthy good tasting deserts.
Grocery isles are
packed with them. Best of all visit a Health Food Store and
you will be amazed.

When you realize there are healthy alternatives then you
must condition yourself mentally to try some of them. You
will be surprised at how well you can adapt to eating
healthy food that will make you look good, feel good and
also cause you to live a more robust active life.

You can get all those good feelings from alternative deserts
just like you now get them from what many refer to as “that
poison”–sugar. It is just a matter of making good decisions
for your life. With the right attitude you will soon wonder
why you did not try alternatives before.

Choosing Healthy Chocolate

Let’s face it. We’re all going to eat chocolate. But you don’t have to feel
guilty! Chocolate is actually good for you…it’s all the things added to it
that are the problem. Here’s how you can choose delicious healthy
chocolates to enjoy anytime.

Health Benefits

The gift of chocolate to a beloved as a token of love is more than just
tradition. Naturally-occurring compounds in chocolate produce that mild
euphoria of being in love and contribute to enjoyable interpersonal
relations by elevating mood and enhancing sensory perception.

Beyond good feelings, chocolate benefits the body in many ways. In
moderation, chocolate can contribute to heart health, help you live
longer, suppress a chronic cough, and add needed magnesium to your
diet. Chocolate even contains a high level of chromium, which can help
control blood sugar.

Health Problems

While chocolate itself is fine to eat, there are some substances present
in chocolate products that you should watch out for.

Most chocolate products contain tremendous amounts of refined white
sugar, which is harmful to health in many ways.

Chocolate may also contain pesticides. The EPA allows various levels of
pesticide residue to be present in cocoa powder, and the FDA Total Diet
Study found them in many chocolate products.

Many chocolates also contain the toxic metals cadminum and lead.
“Significant levels” of these metals were found in 68% of the common
chocolate products tested. There is no safe level for lead, and it is
particularly harmful to children.

Healthy Chocolate Choices

Here are some guidelines for choosing the healthiest chocolates.

1. Choose chocolates with the least amount of refined white sugar or other sweetener. Dark “bittersweet” chocolates with a high percentage
of cocoa solids (usually the label will state the exact percentage) have
less sugar than semisweet or milk chocolate and also have the greatest
health benefits. Keep in mind that flavor additions, such as dried fruits
and candied ginger may also add sugar to the chocolate.

2. Choose chocolates sweetened with evaporated cane juice or barley malt. If the evaporated cane juice used is the unprocessed whole juice of the cane, it acts in the body like a whole food and doesn’t give a
sugar rush. Barley malt is also a slow-release sweetener, noted on the
label as “grain-sweetened.”

3. Choose organic chocolates. Certified organic chocolate ensures there
are no harmful pesticide residues.

4. Make your own chocolates. It’s easy to make many chocolate delights
yourself, with the exact ingredients you want. Start with unsweetened
cocoa powder or baking chocolate and be creative!

5. Choose quality over quantity. If you are going to eat chocolate, eat
really good chocolate. Then, for maximum enjoyment, give the taste of
the chocolate your full attention, eat it at a time when you are not
famished or overly full, and allow the chocolate to melt in your mouth to
make the experience last.

So go ahead and enjoy chocolate, in moderation, as part of an
otherwise healthy diet,

Breakfast is the most important meal of the day and is vital to your child’s health and growth. A nutritious, healthy breakfast is also an excellent start to your child’s school day. It’s the brain food they need to be alert and active for the day’s studies.

Most often, it’s hard to get children to sit down in the morning to a full-course meal. But there are other quick, healthy alternatives if you find your child too sleepy for a full meal or if time is an issue. Breakfast may be more encouraged if you get your little one involved in actually preparing the morning meal. Try it once and see what comes of it. Let them know how important their help in the kitchen really is to you. This may also be a good time to get your whole family gathered around the table. It all depends on your family’s schedules and activities.

If you find getting your children interested in a full meal in the morning to be challenging…don’t panic. It is very important to at least get them to eat some other quick healthful choices. There are various quick, healthy options for you to choose from. Let’s explore…

Below are some food choices to get your kids moving in the morning

Smoothies

Drinking a refreshing smoothie makes it a lot easier to add more fruits and veggies to your diet, and kids love them. Smoothies give you a colorful variety of fruits and veggies. They are also easy and fun to make.

Banana Pineapple Smoothie

Ingredients

1 cup cubed fresh pineapple
2 bananas sliced
1 cup unsweetened soy milk
1 cup non-fat yogurt (any flavor)
Ice cubes
Sweetener if desired

Directions

Combine fresh pineapples, bananas, soy milk, yogurt, and ice cubes in a blender.
Blend until smooth. Serves about 4.

Carrot Apple Juice Smoothie

Ingredients

1 cup peeled and diced carrots
1 1/2 cup apple juice
1/2 cup cold water
Ice cubes

Directions

Toss all ingredients into a blender. Blend until smooth

Muffins and Bagels

For healthier muffins or bagels of course, you need to bake the homemade type. It is best to make them with whole wheat flour. Homemade bran muffins are excellent with some low fat butter and low sugar jelly or jam and are also a good source of fiber. Apple or pear butter on top will also give you some added variety.

Below is a nutritious recipe I think your kids will take a liking to. Who says you can’t have pizza for breakfast?

Muffin Pizza

Ingredients

2 english muffins
pizza sauce
grated mozzarella cheese
1 slice low-fat deli chopped ham
2 scrambled eggs (may substitute egg beaters)

Directions

Cut the 2 muffins in half. Top with pizza sauce, grated cheese, chopped ham, and eggs. Place under toaster oven for a minute or two. Adjust settings to your liking. Offer your child a piece of fruit on the side.

Fruit Salads

There are many variations of fruit salads and really, they are great anytime of the day…not just for breakfast. Fruit salads are excellent with some non-fat yogurt dip.

Breakfast Casseroles

There are many types of casseroles for breakfast. And to make them healthy, you can add any kind of veggies you like and is highly recommended to add to your daily intake of vegetables. Using turkey bacon or sausage and low fat cheeses is ideal when it comes to healthy casseroles. Also using an egg substitute such as egg beaters will give you less fat and cholesterol. With casseroles, you can make them ahead the night before and pop them in the oven in the morning.

Last Minute Breakfast

Always have dried fruits, nuts, dates, sunflower seeds, pumpkin seeds, and trail mixes on hand to toss into sealed plastic bags for those mornings when time just doesn’t permit for a breakfast meal. Make for sure each child gets one of these bags before leaving the house.

There you have it…just a few ideas to keep breakfast healthy for your little ones. Also…don’t forget to eat a good breakfast yourself.

Super Moms Secrets For Quick, Healthy Recipes

General No Comments »

It seems everyone today is looking for quick, healthy recipes they can use for their family. However, they seem to be somewhat difficult as usually recipes be either quick or healthy, but rarely both! But since so many people are working outside the home and are finding their schedules crammed with so many other activities and responsibilities even when they’re not working, finding quick, healthy recipes is a priority for many. No one has the time or the desire to stand over the sink chopping vegetables and no one has the time to wait for a dinner that takes hours to fix.

Interestingly enough you can come up with your own quick, healthy recipes simply varying the ingredients of your favorite recipes or by learning how to cook properly with different types of kitchen tools and gadgets.

As an example, when you use a rotisserie you can find quick, healthy recipes for just about any type of meat you might want. By having it cook on the rotisserie you’re having the grease and fat drip away from it rather than having the meat cook in its own fats. By using some marinades or seasoning mixes you may find that your main dishes come out much tastier this way then they ever did before and you don’t need to use fats to add flavor to your dishes. As a matter of fact, these quick, healthy recipes for your main dishes aren’t even really recipes but just better and healthier ways of preparing your meats so you don’t even need to follow instructions from a cookbook.

Some other ways of coming up with your own quick, healthy recipes is to reduce the amount of sugar you use to cook with when making desserts and other items. If you bake from scratch, try using applesauce as a sweetener or reducing your sugar by one-third. Use reduced fat mayonnaise or salad dressing; you don’t need to go with fat free completely as this might be too much of a change for you, but by just reducing fat and sugar you can come up with some great quick, healthy recipes that are still very palatable to you and your family. You can also cut back just a little bit to start with and then gradually work your way up to how much you want to reduce your sugar and fat content overall.

Sneak vegetables into your cooking whenever you can; this is how quick, healthy recipes are created in a professional kitchen. If you make meatloaf, add some chopped peppers and onions. Do the same when cooking soup - add additional chopped carrots, onions, and anything else your family enjoys. Slip some spinach into an omelet. These are all easy and quick tips but you would be surprised how often people ignore these tips when cooking. Making up your own quick, healthy recipes simply means being creative with your ingredients and your methods.

Of course it does no good to come up with these quick, healthy recipes if you and your family never actually eat the things you cook this way. Get into the habit of having a small salad or bowl of vegetable soup before each dinner and lunch. This doesn’t need to be a huge bowlful; just a few small bites before your main meal can make a tremendous amount of difference. You can also schedule what days you’re going to have your quick, healthy recipes and then save your special treats and indulgences for the weekend or another special time. Make sure the family knows that Monday is healthy night, Tuesday you’ll have what you want, Wednesday is another healthy night, and so on.

And get your family involved in coming up with and creating quick, healthy recipes. If the kids are busy in the kitchen they’re more likely to want to eat what they’ve prepared. You don’t want them to use dangerous knives and other equipment but they can certainly work with measuring and things such as this.
