3 Things People Forget Ordering Healthy Food

When it comes to eating out and staying on a diet there are some pitfalls for which you need to be on the lookout. It is all too easy to get out with friends for lunch and forget just a few things and then completely blow all of your hard work in the gym the previous afternoon. Keeping an eye on these traps can make the difference in having great success with fat loss and just getting frustrated and giving up.

Ordering out and trying to remain healthy is inevitable. So one thing to be sure and do is to get prepared. Researching the normal places you might be eating out is a great tip a lot of people often completely forget or do not think of in the first place. One of the most common times of having to eat out when you are on a diet is a coworker lunch. A lot of times even if you take your lunch to work you just might be having a particularly stressful day and need to get away with a friend to get out of the office for awhile. If you have not done your homework this alone can completely knock you off track .This can also carry with it the danger of making your already stressful day that much more stressful. No one wants the guilt associated with falling off track to go on top of a challenging day. So make sure and consciously pay attention to the area around your job beforehand. What restaurants are around and what healthy choices do they offer? Are any of the restaurants completely free of healthy choices? If so you will want to avoid those entirely. Do your homework on this one and you will not have to worry about it when the time comes.

Another trap that people do not think about or overlook is the fact that you can customize your food when eating out. All too often you might look at them menu and just give in to a not so healthy choice just for the simple fact that it does not cross your mind to ask if they can change something for you. Keep in mind that you are the paying customer and any restaurant worth eating at will be happy to adjust something for you. Dressing on the side or substituting grilled vegetables for mashed potatoes is actually a common request these days. Just tell the server what you want and you might be surprised at how easy it is to get the food the way you want it.

Finally just remember to control your portion size. A lot of times it is easy to completely blow your diet just by eating everything you are served at a restaurant. It is no secret that the portion sizes at pretty much all restaurants these days are way over what is considered healthy. Just asking for half of your meal to go can save you from completely getting off track with your fitness. Keeping these things in mind will save you from having to give up eating out completely. After all what is the point of being healthy if you cannot enjoy life?

Healthy Eating - Don’t Leave the Deck Without a Dinner!

Day 143/366 - my NutriSystem weight loss bears

I recently wrote that Younger Son was on the Ark Royal. Well he survived it - and more importantly the Ark Royal survived him!

He was a bit peeved that as they left the ship at Liverpool the crew were putting tables and chairs out for a party. Younger Son felt he was missing out on a feast and after five days at sea he finally felt he could eat again. I pointed out to him that the event was probably a reception for the bigwigs of Liverpool and was never intended for a bunch of by-now-quite-whiffy sea cadets.

I did sympathise, though. How disappointing to see a potential feast in preparation and know it is not intended for you.

Which is how many of us feel when we go out with friends or are eating in public. Overweight people often feel guilty when they have to eat in public.

Particularly if you are the largest person there (or feel you are) you may feel that everybody is looking at your plate of food. They also feel obliged to comment - ‘Oh you’re not eating that, are you?’ or ‘Can you have that on your diet?’ or, as you look at the calorific puddings, ‘Go on, one won’t hurt you.’

The people who do this fall into one of these categories:

a) They are naturally slim and are secretly pleased that they can eat what they like.

b) They are self-conscious about their own body shape and secretly pleased you are bigger than them.

c) They are self-conscious about their own body shape and secretly annoyed that you are starting to take care of your food intake when they are not.

d) They are sociopaths who will do anything to undermine you.

Moral of the story? This talk is all about them, not about you, so don’t take any notice of them. When you choose to eat, you eat to feed your body not theirs. When you choose to eat healthy foods you are choosing for your greatest good, not theirs. When you choose to eat less-than-healthy foods make that a conscious choice for you (unconscious eating has a habit of being unhealthy) at that time.

If you make conscious food choices and enjoy the food you eat, that’s a better strategy than not inviting yourself to the feast. Eating nothing in front of other people or toying with a plate of lettuce in an effort to look ‘healthy’ will only make you go home feeling deprived. And then it’s easy to justify lots of late night ’snacks’ or a whole tub of frozen comfort food!

Don’t leave the ship feeling you are missing out - eat consciously, eat up and enjoy.

Lose Body Weight - Eating Healthy is a Good Start to a Better Lifestyle

A weighloss pyramid, made on the food/weighlos...
Image via Wikipedia

Are you looking for a basic guideline and diet to follow as you determine which approach to use to lose body weight? If you want to obtain true weight loss you have to eliminate all of the processed foods, sodas, cookies, artificial sweeteners, and pastries. This is a good starting point because it cuts out all the toxins. Cutting out the toxins helps facilitate your body to remove unwanted fat that builds up in your body over time. This is one of the many secrets to losing body weight and keeping it off for good. If you put garbage in, expect the output to be garbage.

For example, you buy a very expensive car that needs only a certain type of gas to run at its optimal level. You did just as you were told and filled it up with the specific gas. Your car runs beautifully. Then one day, you decided, I am going to use this other gas it shouldn‘t make a difference. You kept doing this for 2 months, and then you started to notice that it wasn‘t running like it used to. You ignored the signs of the car getting progressively worse, and then you go to start the car and it will not run. As the proper gas was needed for the car to run smoothly, the same holds true for your body. If you continue to fuel your body with the wrong type of nutrients your body will eventually break down and not work at its optimal level.

The change of diet will be hard at first, but you will lose body weight and you will have more energy and less fatigue. I am not saying you can never eat any of these foods again, but it is best to decrease as much as possible to reap the most benefits you can. There is no single diet that is right for everyone but there is a diet that is perfect for you. There is an ideal balance of the macro-nutrient proteins, carbohydrates, fats that suits your body‘s specific biochemistry. Adjusting your eating patterns towards the balance of foods appropriate for your metabolic type can bring about noticeable improvements in your body and mind. Eating the wrong foods may cause unpleasant temporary symptoms such as lack of energy, irritability, depression, sweet cravings or indigestion. The long-term effects of an unbalanced diet can be much more serious, and result in chronic disease.

People experience different learning curves when it comes to changing their eating habits. You may ask now what? This is such a daunting task. How am I going to do this? First, take a deep breath. It is going to be OK! I am going to give you a method to do this change easily and with as little discomfort as possible. No matter how effective a plan is over the short-term, you have wasted your time, effort, and money if you have to start from the beginning over and over again. Make sure that the plan you choose helps you lose body weight, emphasizes permanent weight loss, and has a system to support your efforts until you are comfortable doing it alone.

The truth is you don’t need such-n-such medical agencies or some’ muscle head’ at the gym telling you a bunch of fluffed up statistics and misleading numbers about calories and carbs. All you have to do is begin the process, take charge of your life, and stop thinking I can’t lose body weight. Start taking action if you want to improve your health and lifestyle and begin losing weight.
